IAADFS supports members, industry through advocacy efforts

In 2014, IAADFS celebrated the 46th anniversary of the Duty Free Show of the Americas, which is the longest running event for the duty free industry. This show brings together thousands of representatives from key buyer and supplier companies to conduct business during a three-day tradeshow complemented by a social program that provides numerous valuable networking opportunities.

Aside from the direct business-to-business advantages that suppliers and buyers receive from participating in the Duty Free Show of the Americas, participants also benefit from programs that are supported by revenue from the show. The IAADFS Board of Directors uses revenue from the IAADFS show to fund the association’s advocacy and government relations programs on behalf of IAADFS members and the industry as a whole. Show revenue also helps to fund IAADFS contributions to charities such as ongoing support to Haiti, the Hurricane Sandy relief effort, regular contributions to the DFNI Charity, Smile Train, and other worthwhile charitable efforts. Since IAADFS is a non-profit entity, funds are reinvested in efforts that will benefit association members and the duty free industry.

Although different portions of our industry are represented by various regional organizations, the fact is that the duty free industry is global, and events or actions in one region can have profound effects on the rest of the industry. Threats to our industry can come in many forms — natural disasters, increased government restrictions, terrorist threats or acts, or even outbreaks of diseases — and we have to be vigilant and ready to respond when appropriate. Funding from the IAADFS Duty Free Show of the Americas allows the association to monitor for threats to the industry and to respond when necessary.

We thank our exhibitors, sponsors, and show attendees for their support of IAADFS and the Duty Free Show of the Americas.
