A successful wrap-up of the 2016 Duty Free Show

The 2016 IAADFS Duty Free Show of the Americas was a success, offering plenty of networking and face-to-face meeting time — and, as always, social events.

The show kicked off Sunday, April 3 with annual Sports Day activities, including the golf tournament, tennis tournament, and the second annual fun run/walk, extended to a 5K this year, which raised $5,000 for Escuela de la Calle (EDELAC), offering assistance to at-risk children in Guatemala. Participants enjoyed face time with friends, old and new, in the Florida sunshine, wrapping up the day at the poolside Opening Reception.

Peter Sant, managing director for Remy Cointreau, especially enjoyed the reception for its atmosphere and networking opportunities.

“Both the cocktail reception and Gala dinner were well attended, but personally, I got more out of the opening reception and the networking opportunities that it presented. Coming from Asia, the show is a great opportunity for me to meet my American customers,” Sant said.

New to the schedule this year was a Monday morning education session featuring presentations by Angela Gittens, director general of Airports Council International (ACI World), and Peter Mohn, owner and CEO of m1nd-set. Following the session, Gittens joined the IAADFS Board of Directors for the ribbon cutting that opened the Trademarket floor.

Nearly 200 companies exhibited this year, more than 40 of them as first-timers, and saw their time at the show as well spent. Remy Cointreau saw much success from networking and meetings, and Peter Sant stressed the importance of being prepared before arriving at the show.

“Overall, this was a good show for us. You need to plan your meetings well in advance and not just count on bumping into people. We had back-to-back meetings and two cocktail happy hours on Monday and Tuesday and received excellent feedback from our attendees. We’ll be doing the same next year,” Sant said.
