Gala serves up an evening of celebration and remembrance

IAADFS presents a check to the Motta family, making a donation to Operation Smile, a favorite charity of former IAADFS President Alberto “Pancho” Motta Jr.

Show attendees mingled in style at last evening’s Gala event, a perennial favorite for Duty Free show attendees. The evening offered a chance to celebrate the industry in an elegant setting, with a hint of solemnity as IAADFS honored former President Alberto “Pancho” Motta Jr., who passed away just after the IAADFS show last year.

Members of Mr. Motta’s family, pillars in the duty free industry, were in attendance at the Gala as a video was shown highlighting his many years of involvement in and support of IAADFS and the industry as a whole. The association presented a check to the Motta family, contributing $50,000 to Operation Smile, a favorite charity of Mr. Motta’s.

The evening offered unique musical entertainment, gourmet food and an open bar, including wine contributed by event supporter Brown-Forman. Guests enjoyed special gifts from supporters Godiva and Revlon.

At the end of the evening, the airwall dividing the room was opened, allowing guests the opportunity to stay and dance the night away at Club Americas.

“I come to the Gala evening to support the industry. This year, I’m especially looking forward to the tribute to Pancho Motta,” said Marlene Friedman, Senior Buyer, Fragrance and Beauty for International Shoppes.
