2017 IAADFS show offers opportunity

The New Member Welcome Reception was just one social networking opportunity during the Duty Free show.

The 2017 IAADFS Duty Free Show of the Americas served up plenty of opportunities to work, play and build relationships in Orlando. Nearly 150 companies exhibited on the sold-out show floor this year, with 35 displaying their products for the first time or returning after taking a break from exhibiting.

On Sunday, attendees were busy at work setting appointments or prepping booth space for a busy week ahead, but still took time to enjoy a day of networking and plenty of fun in the Florida sunshine. Annual Sports Day activities kicked off the show, including the ever-popular golf tournament and 5K Fun Run/Walk, which benefited Hand in Hand for Haiti this year. The day added a fresh twist with a yoga session, which replaced the tennis tournament held in years past.

The first day wrapped with a variety of social events, including the poolside Opening Reception, New Exhibitor/New Member Welcome Reception and the Women in Travel Retail (WiTr) meeting, which took place as an evening cocktail reception rather than as a breakfast meeting this year.

After the success of last year’s educational sessions, additional education time was added this year. Monday and Tuesday’s programs focused on growth opportunities in the Americas, the unique challenges and opportunities presented in duty free border stores, as well as the importance of employee engagement in the duty free and travel retail channel.

Evening events such as Club Americas and the annual Gala offered sophisticated settings for networking with friends old and new. This year’s Gala also offered a chance for the industry to honor former IAADFS President Alberto “Pancho” Motta Jr.

IAADFS looks forward to a new, exciting partnership next year in Orlando, as the group will collaborate with ASUTIL for the 2018 Summit of the Americas.
